What is the best weight tracker on iPhone and Android?

I was quite podgy when my then boyfriend proposed. I wanted to look good in my wedding dress so I went on a calorie counting mission to get myself in shape. When the whole thing started I said, “I’m doing this just for the wedding and as soon as it’s over I’ll go back to chomping on whatever I want, whenever I want.”

Three months in, after I saw the results of my exercise and my health conscious eating, I thought, I want to keep this body. I was still overweight according to BMI but I thought it was wrong because the mirror and my friends told a whole different story.

I had calorie tracked before but the issue was that my weight generally crept back up because I stopped keeping track of my weight after I reached my goal. This was the problem. To solve it, I went onto my iPhone and looked for a tool that I would enjoy using to record my weight: I didn’t like any of them for the following reasons:
  • Most were an add-on to a calorie counter and I actually wanted a dedicated weight tracker as I wasn’t counting calories. Importantly, I like trying out different calorie counters but I hate leaving my weight data behind when I change
  • Many weight trackers were too BMI focused, they were designed to suit only people that think BMI is the ultimate benchmark for normality. I think it’s a decent metric but it is far from accurate as I have seen many people that are fit, active and ‘normal-looking’ described as overweight or even obese
  • Importantly, I couldn’t understand why none of these trackers had an alert system. Yes, some people weigh themselves regularly and know when they are getting off track but some of us need a little help. I am always too busy to remember to weigh myself, my life is one big rush – all the time.

  • These were the three main reasons that led to the development of the Fat Creep™ weight tracker. It was basically designed to meet a personal need, a need that I thought was not unique to me.

As the app was developed I decided to add cool charts, export and back-up facilities plus metrics such as change, high, low and mean weight over given time periods. By the time all was done I sincerely believed Fat Creep™ was the best weight tracker. I use it once a week and as we get feedback from friends the Fat Creep™ team hopes to add functionality – money allowing.

One really interesting feature that several people suggested from the outset is an automatic stream to Facebook every time they input their weight. They think that if their weight change is publicly announced it will encourage them to be more food and fitness conscious. Interesting thought, what do you think? Well, we thought it was fabulous idea and from today Fat Creep™ has Facebook-on! Share the news.
