Day 1 in Florence, blistering heat: it must have been close to forty degrees celsius. The botanical gardens are worth a visit for their depiction of different species of dinosaur but in August many of the flowers and other vegetation have withered.
Upon our visit, we found a collection of different types of chilli being cultivated.
The entrance fee entitles one to view the garden's collection of fossils which cover many different epochs.
The entrance to the fossil exhibition is a five minute walk round the corner so if you're unaware of its existence you are likely to miss it out altogether.
The fossils cover just one large room so you can walk through the entire collection within a half hour.
